I mean, I always loved prog and synths and all that as a kid. But couldn’t afford them
With VSTs, the cost dropped to zero (including making some fof my own)
Guitar pedals are boring and expensive compared to synths, especially free VST synths and effects.
I use more variety of sound in one album (maybe one song, sometimes) than a lot of guitar players in a lifetime.
Vince Clarke of Depeche Mode said early on that’s why they got into synths, (and samplers), because guitars just sound like guitars no matter what pedals you use.
You know what really got me into making music with synths and doing BipTunia in 2017? The opening chords of this song. I thought it was a guitar with some really odd effect, but it’s a glitchy Jupiter-4 synth patch modulating a rhythm pulse through that synth’s arpeggiator.

It’s just 2 guys and they did it over the mail / internet. And they’re cousins.
