Pretty Good Sampler from BipTunia Synths is a free VST with a brave new approach to sampling. Ditch the dusty, tired old looping rut of the past 50 years! Set your samples free. And sample length? Unlimited.
Easiest polyphonic sampler you’ll ever use. It’s the follow-up to our previous VST, “Stupid Simple Sampler.” People really liked that but asked for tuning capability, and we’ve added it, both rough and fine tuning. Barely touches your CPU.
Here’s Reaper with Pretty Good Sampler in on 8 different tracks, plus 2 tracks of drums, plus compressor, EQ, reverb and a little delay on every channel. Total use is STILL below 0.1 percent of the 64 GB of RAM!
FOR BEST SOUND, add a dash of light, fast compression after this VST on the same channel. Sprinkle in a little bit of reverb, and season with EQ to taste, or use none. Toss in a splash of delay, if you’re feeling adventurous.
Comes with a new loop-back saturation circuit (defaulted low) that throws in a pinch of resonance and harmonics. Your samples just sound better.
It’s a 64-bit Windows VST3—drop-dead simple and a blast to play. Comes with an on-screen oscilloscope for trippy, useful visuals of your sound.
Pretty Good Sampler can handle any WAV sample—mono, stereo, at any bit depth, any sample rate. Only 7 controls, including the file picker. That’s it.
• Control 1: Pick your sample. We threw in 16 originals, but load whatever you want.
• The other 6: Two for tuning, plus A, D, S, R (Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release). Skip ‘em if you’re lazy—they’re optional sauce. Crank D, S, and R for infinite sustain, or nudge A for a vibey, bowed violin feel.
The new tuning sliders let you wrangle any sound—music, nature, whatever—into your track’s key.
Included Samples: Bell, Bounce, Meow, Sine, Strings Synth Claxon, Burp Meow, Clink, Space Gas, Synth Falling Down Stairs, Synth Float, Synth Growl, Synth Tingle, Synth Vibro, Synth Wav, Worms. Pro tip: Sine works for bells or gut-rumbling bass.
The zip has a folder of presets and a short bit on installing them, though the sampler will work without them. They’re just to get started.
INSTRUCTIONS: Download, unzip it, drag the whole folder (sub-folders and all) into your DAW’s VST spot. No clunky installer—those are more trouble than they’re worth. Includes a short step-by-step manual, if you need it.
