“Field of Poppies” 1999 electronica song by Michael W. Dean. Was from the enhanced CD Living Vicariously Through Michael Dean. Released in 1999 by Direct Hit Records – (DH036). I actually bought a copy of the CD because I didn’t have it. I want to cover this with BipTunia, and my friend Ron wants to cover it too. I couldn’t remember the words. lol. The song is about recovering from heroin. Song covered by the BipCot NoGov License. I sing and play bass on this, but I can’t even remember who else played on it. If anyone knows, let me know. Was those two electronic music guys who hung out at Hyde Street Studio, and that drummer who worked at Starbucks.
LYRICS:
Can you get to the other side
of the field of poppies
without laying down to go to sleep
and never waking up again?
can you get to the other side of the
field of poppies
with your body intact,
your self-respect and your friends
my kisses are narcotic
you shake and sweat when I’m not there
we’ll be blowing up a mountain
when I whisper through your hair
Chorus (2x);
shake me then erase me
you can never quite replace me
you’re in my blood
I’m in your soul
I’m a 2-bit baby boy
lost in the city streets
screamin’ for his next mommy
lookin’ up and clutching any
skirt that slishes (whispers) by
I fear my own thoughts
reflected in your yellow eyes
(chorus x2 w/’fucking’)
Well, I kiss you all to miss myself
I miss you like the devil misses God
I’ll bite her lip and taste her blood
and roll her blood along my tongue
her blood will become the wine
that I will sup every time
I want you behind me
get behind me! behind me! behind me! behind me! behind me!
get thee behind me! behind me!
