\nSo the Great Cleveland Balloonfest of \u201886
\nSo the Cleveland town fathers
\ndecided they didn’t want to be the brunt of the jokes
\nand they wanted to do a wonderful gift to the world
\nwith tax money
\nstolen at gunpoint.<\/p>\n

(You know, if you don’t pay it, they
\nthrow you in jail\u2026threaten you
\nwith a gun.)<\/p>\n

So they decided to pay a few million dollars
\nhaving this festival where they basically
\nbought up all the helium tanks in the country
\nfor a week.<\/p>\n

Helium is in short supply.
\nAnd it’s expensive.
\nIt’s hard to extract from the air.<\/p>\n

They got
\ntruckload upon
\ntruckload upon
\ntruckload of
\nhelium tanks<\/p>\n

And they brought in people from around the country
\nwho were experts at inflating helium balloons quickly…
\n….all the out of work clowns.<\/p>\n

Brought ’em in,
\nhad the mayor out there
\nwith a bullhorn barking orders:<\/p>\n

(“HEY YOU CLOWNS!<\/em>
\nGET BACK TO WOIK!”)<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2026.(It was) highly publicized.
\nThe whole city is involved, whether it wants to be or not.<\/p>\n

So they inflate 1.1 million balloons.
\nThey just let ’em go, and they go under this
\ngiant net. So they can
\nrelease ’em all at once.<\/p>\n

\u2026Seven hours
\nhaving hundreds of people blowing up
\nballoon after balloon after balloon.<\/p>\n

Blowin’ up all these balloons.
\nAll the kids got out of school for the day
\nto blow up balloons.<\/p>\n

Forced child labor
\nwith no pay. Slavery, yeah.<\/p>\n

News crews from as far away as Buffalo and Toledo
\nshowed up. It was that\u2026<\/p>\n

They released the balloons. Was quite a site.
\nYou know, there’s a skyscraper downtown…
\n…the balloons all clung to the side of it going up,
\nobscured it, it was amazing.<\/p>\n

The bay of Lake Erie, in front of Cleveland,
\nwas nothing but balloons.
\nYou can’t see the water.
\nYou know, State-sponsored pollution.
\nThey all land in the lake.<\/p>\n

Ah, that’s horrible.<\/p>\n

They’re looking for some missing fishermen
\nwho were out fishing while this happened.<\/p>\n

They found the boat with
\nboth life preservers still in the boat.<\/p>\n

And they’re looking for the people,
\ninterviewing the guy looking for them.<\/p>\n

And he’s like
\n“We wouldn’t see ’em, if they’re
\nout here. There’s nothing but balloons. And we’re
\nlooking for a guy with an orange hat.
\nAnd there’s nothing but orange and yellow
\nand red balloons out here\u2026..
\n….and they’re all the size of a human head.
\nWe can’t find these people.”<\/p>\n

They were found dead later.<\/p>\n

They probably got distracted by the balloons
\nlanding on them and it was a stormy day.<\/p>\n

They city, while they were dying in the
\nwater, made it impossible to find them.<\/p>\n

Town fathers:
\n(“WE’RE THE ONLY ONES<\/em>
\nSMART ENOUGH TO RUN YOUR LIFE!”)<\/em><\/p>\n

They get to rule us
\nthey did that.<\/p>\n

That happened.<\/p>\n

Unbelievable!<\/p>\n
